Stephen James

Managing Director

I began working as a bricklayer straight from school at the age of sixteen. I trained at the local college and was a dedicated and hardworking student. After working for a few companies, I decided to set up SJB in 2005. The company started off with a small number of sub-contractors with relatively small jobs but the company’s commitment and high standard were never in doubt. Since then we have continued to grow.

Our aim is to always to maintain quality and never take the easy option or cut corners – we will never compromise on the finish. I believe in loyalty to the clients and the sub-contractors alike and I value the trust that has been built up through good times and the bad.
I am immensely proud of the team that we have assembled around us and fully appreciate their hard work and commitment to the work we do. It is always a pleasure to work with like minded operatives who are dedicated to producing top quality work. I look forward to expanding the quality workforce and taking on new and exciting challenges. Our site supervisors are not only highly qualified but are also very experienced.

Mark Pope

Currently working at Waterstone Homes, St Brides

Mark has over thirty years of experience and knowledge in construction as a bricklayer. His work ranges from the huge builds such as the work on the University in Swansea (Leadbitter/Bouygues UK) to refurbishment in Bro Edern School in Cardiff and executive bespoke houses with a variety of contractors. His scope of work has extended to building large houses, examples of which can be seen in the gallery.

Every site manager who has worked with Mark has commented on his meticulous work and his effective management of labour and materials. His professionalism is only matched by his attitude and attention to details all of which are first class. He is invaluable member of SJB and his contribution to training is second to none. He has been a large contributor to training both apprentices who won the Apprenticeship awards and takes his role in their development very seriously. He has essential leadership skills which ensure that the standard of the workforce is always high.

Mark Langley

Currently working at RCT Extra Care, Talbot Green

We are delighted to have Mark working with SJB again, having recently returned in May to the company after a brief spell working as a site manager for a large PLC company.

Mark is a very ambitious, positive, and enthusiastic member of the team. He again has vast experience and knowledge has been in the bricklaying trade for over twenty-five years. Mark is always keen to expand his knowledge and skills and attends training frequently to enable him to keep up to date with new developments. Mark was previously responsible for delivering phase three of the Loudoun Square development at the highest quality and on time.

Administration

Emma James, Director and Accounts Manager – Michelle Jones, Office Manager

Behind the scenes we have a small team of administrators who help to keep the workforce up to date with new training schemes and implement our in house training programmes.

They liaise closely with site supervisors to ensure any necessary certification or paperwork is put in place so that the work on site can begin and continue smoothly. They have an excellent working relationship with supervisors and sub-contractors and are always on hand to help with any queries or problems that may arise.
